Guaranteed analysis

Pet food labels must include a guaranteed analysis stating minimum percentages of crude protein and crude fat, and maximum percentages of crude fiber and moisture. "Crude" is a chemistry term meaning measured by a particular lab method, not a quality judgment. The numbers are "as fed" — to compare wet and dry foods fairly, convert to dry-matter basis. Note: minimums for protein/fat mean the food contains AT LEAST that much; manufacturers don't have to disclose the actual amount.
