Filler

"Filler" generally refers to corn, wheat, soy, brewers rice, and similar grain or grain-byproduct ingredients used to inflate protein percentages or simply add bulk. They're not toxic — many are perfectly digestible — but they're nutritionally weaker than named animal proteins and typically cheaper. A formula with three or more fillers in the first five ingredients is leaning heavily on plant matter to hit its protein number.
