Animal Fat

Category: fat

⚠ Controversial ingredient

AAFCO Definition

Fat obtained from the tissue of mammals and/or poultry in the commercial process of rendering or extracting. It shall contain not less than 90% total fatty acids.

Why it's controversial

Generic 'animal fat' does not identify the source species, raising the same transparency and quality control issues as generic meat meals. The species used may vary between batches, making it unsuitable for pets with specific protein allergies.
