Menadione (also "menadione sodium bisulfite complex" or "menadione sodium bisulfite") is a synthetic form of vitamin K added to many pet foods. Vitamin K supplementation isn't usually necessary in foods containing meat and green vegetables. Animal studies have shown menadione can cause liver damage and interfere with red blood cell function. Many premium brands have removed it; the FDA hasn't acted on it for pet food.
